IPSWICH, Mass. — October 30, 2014 — Continuing its tradition of working with libraries to help patrons find the content they want as quickly and conveniently as possible, EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) is introducing Flipster™, which allows library patrons to browse the latest issues of high quality digital versions of popular magazines, courtesy of their library.
Flipster provides users easy access to digital magazines for online browsing via their desktops or any mobile device. Flipster allows libraries to give their patrons the option of accessing the content at the library or remotely. They can also download magazines to their Android device, iPad or iPad mini via a native app for offline reading anytime anywhere.
Flipster has many features designed to give readers an easy and fun digital reading experience. They can browse magazines by category as well as perform searches for specific periodicals. An online newsstand provides a carousel of the most recent issues, as well as a carousel of all issues allowing for quick access to magazines. The table of contents contains links to quickly go to articles of interest and hotlinks within magazines are hyperlinked, opening in separate tabs when clicked. In addition, there is an option to zoom in and out for better readability.
Top titles in Flipster include The Atlantic, Car & Driver, Consumer Reports, Cosmopolitan, Country Living, Entertainment Weekly, Ebony, Elle, Esquire, Forbes, Fortune, Golf Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Harper’s Bazaar, Jet, Men’s Health, Money, Newsweek, People Magazine, Prevention, Popular Mechanics, Rolling Stone, Redbook, Road & Track, Runner’s World, Science News, Seventeen, Sports Illustrated, Southern Living, Time, Woman’s Day, US Weekly and many others.
Senior Vice President for Product Management, Michael Laddin says that Flipster is a new way for EBSCO customers to provide content to their end users. “By providing a high quality digital reading experience for library patrons, whether they are at the library or accessing the digital magazines remotely, Flipster offers a unique approach for experiencing content in popular magazines as well as extending library services in an exciting new way. It has been designed especially for library patrons who want to browse the latest issues of popular magazines. Flipster complements EBSCO’s full-text databases (e.g., MasterFILE, MAS, Business Source, etc.) which enable patrons to research topics of interest to them.”
The addition of Flipster’s digital magazines gives libraries that are accustomed to working with EBSCO for subscriptions, databases and e-books, the opportunity to work with a familiar and trusted partner and the benefits that come with EBSCO’s long-standing relationships with major publisher partners. Customers who buy both Flipster and databases from EBSCO will receive significant discounts for the combined resources.
